MATTHEW 1 : 18-25 | BORN OF A VIRGIN

BORN OF A VIRGIN

How is that even possible?

Lets check out by answering the below questions .

  • How can a virgin give birth?
  • Was it really necessary for Jesus to be born this way?
  • Why didn’t Joseph leave Mary after finding out she was pregnant?
  • Is it scientific? Or is it spiritual?
  • What does this mean for you today?

THE UNEXPECTED PREGNANCY

(“Mary Was Pregnant… But Joseph Wasn’t the Father”)

Matthew 1:18 opens with tension. Mary is engaged (betrothed) to Joseph, but she’s found pregnant before marriage.

In Jewish tradition, betrothal (called kiddushin) makes a couple legally husband and wife although they do not consummate the marriage until after the second stage under the chuppah (marriage canopy).

So when Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant before they came together, it appeared to him that she had been unfaithful.

here’s the divine twist:

Mary was found with child by the Holy Spirit not by a man(A Supernatural Pregnancy). This was not known to Joseph at first.

Joseph, being righteous, didn't want to expose her to public judgement but planned to divorce her quietly.

At this moment, we see Joseph’s deep inner struggle.

THE DREAM THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

As Joseph wrestled with what to do, God sent an angel in a dream and affirmed that the child in Mary’s womb was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

(“Joseph Obeyed Without Question”)

Joseph didn’t demand proof. He obeyed the angel, took Mary as his wife, and didn’t consummate the marriage until after Yeshua’s birth. Matthew 1:24

He protected the purity of God’s plan—quietly, faithfully, powerfully.

BORN OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

(“Why Not Just a Normal Birth?”)

Biblically, Isaiah 59 connects the Spirit of God to redemption.

The Redeemer will come to Zion, and a covenant will be established, marked by the outpouring of the Spirit. Thus, the conception by the Holy Spirit highlights that Yeshua’s mission is redemptive in nature.

If Jesus had a human father, He would’ve inherited sin like us.

The virgin birth made Him fully God and fully man — sinless, perfect, and the only one able to save us.

He was born for the cross. From the womb, His mission was salvation.

HIS NAME MEANS SALVATION

Matthew 1:21 declares: “You shall call His name Yeshua, for He will save His people from their sins.”

YESHUA MEANS SALVATION

Some call Him “Yahshua” to include “Yah,” a shortened form of Gods name but it’s non-Hebrew hybrid. Scripture uses “Yeshua,” meaning salvation perfectly fitting His mission.

(God didn’t send a messenger , He came Himself.)

Matthew 1:22–23 echoes Isaiah 7:14:“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel.” Emmanuel means “God with us.”

God Himself stepped into our world to dwell with humanity and redeem them.

VIRGIN OR JUST A YOUNG WOMAN

Some argue “alma” (Hebrew term)means just “young woman.”

But the Greek word used in Matthew makes it clear, it means virgin, untouched by man.

This was no ordinary birth. It had to be miraculous to match the mission.

THE FIRST BORN ROLE AND MESSIAH'S MISSION

Matthew Chapter 1 introduces Yeshua as the son of David, son of Abraham, the Divine Redeemer born of a virgin by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is called Mary’s firstborn.

In Hebrew tradition, the firstborn inherits the father’s MISSION.

His very name declares His mission: to save His people from their sins. Through His birth, life, death, and resurrection.

He offers a new covenant—a covenant of redemption, forgiveness, and Kingdom Hope.

So What Does This Mean for You?

Salvation is available

  • To all who confess their sin
  • Believe in Yeshua’s death and resurrection,
  • Trust in Him as Lord and Redeemer.
  • Through Him, we gain not only forgiveness but also the unshakable promise of eternal life in the Kingdom of God.

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
